Scholarship Information

The Turner Community Development Foundation believes that the growth of the Ellwood City area depends on having more high-tech knowledge in the community.

Each year the Turner Community Development Foundation provides at least one $2500 scholarship to a Riverside High School senior and at least one additional $2500 scholarship to a Lincoln High School senior who is planning to major in engineering, computer science, information systems, mathematics, physics, bioinformatics or similar technology-related area of study.

Students wishing to apply for the scholarship should contact the Riverside High School guidance office for an application. Minimum requirements are:
  • Attending an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Planning to pursue a major in a technology-related field of study
  • 1-Page essay: "Why are you a good candidate to receive this award?"
  • Two letters of recommendation describing the student’s strong moral character. Letters of recommendation cannot be from relatives.
  • Demonstrated financial need (students and parents will need to provide tax forms to the guidance office)
  • Completed application
  • Proof of acceptance to the student’s intended college or university and intended major/area of study, if available
The deadline to submit the application is March 31 of each year. Applications are to be submitted to the Riverside High School Guidance Office.

2010 Scholarship Winner - Ben Sepe

Ben plans to major in engineering and is currently deciding between Brown University, Penn State University, and Syracuse University. Some of Ben’s achievements include:
  • MVP award on the varsity soccer team
  • 1st place (statewide) at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science
  • University of Pittsburgh Scholars Academy
  • President of the Riverside High School National Honors Society
  • President of the Riverside High School Science Club
  • Vice President of the Riverside High School Student Government
Ben also volunteered at a local YMCA-affiliated special needs camp and maintained a part time job while going to school and playing soccer. We wish Ben the best of luck in college and in the future!
